Working in a Global Business Environment

Optimizing Global Business Cooperation

Intercultural competence is a key factor in successful global business. The negative effects of ignoring cultural differences are only too well documented. This seminar will help you minimize the tensions, problems and misunderstandings that often plague global business dealings.
You will raise your awareness for cultural differences and their impact on business; you will develop the basic skills of a good intercultural communicator; you will be better equipped to create positive synergies in your global working environment.

Effective E-Mail Communication for Global Business

Cross-cultural communication is effected more and more often by electronic media, especially via e-mail. The advantages are undeniable, particularly with regard to speed.
However, there are also surprising hurdles of a cultural nature that need addressing for smoother operations. The voices of frustration grow among international executives seeking answers to everyday questions such as the following:
How can I ensure that my e-mails will be answered promptly? Why does my foreign counterpart not read my messages through to the end? Which level of personability is appropriate? When should I read "between the lines?" How do I avoid unintentional offence?
This seminar provides a wealth of information and practical exercises to increase your cross-cultural sensitivity and deal more competently and effectively with e-mail correspondence.

Working with Germans

Working and Interacting Effectively with Germans

We all know Germany as the country of towns and villages exuding old fashioned charm and of state-of-the-art technology yet:
Are you surprised by the breathtaking directness of German communication? Do you sometimes find the German affinity for discussion, thoroughness and perfection more a hindrance than a help?
Are you mystified by the seemingly pessimistic worldview of many Germans? In this seminar we explore major German cultural themes as well as work-related attitudes and behavior. We will help you unravel the mystery of the German mindscape and build better personal and business relationships with your German colleagues, supervisors and employees.
Topics include culture-specific information on Germany, attitudes toward work, information on leadership and management styles, communication style, problem solving and decision making, project implementation and teamwork, negotiations, making effective presentations and business etiquette.

Working with the Chinese

Business Training for China
The business prospects for Western companies in China are staggering. But apart from being a wealth of opportunity, China is also well known as one of the toughest markets in existence. One of the oldest cultures in the world, Chinese business rituals are based on traditions stretching back over five-thousand years. A thorough understanding of the prevailing mindset and business practices was never as crucial to success as here. Our recommendation: use your best people for doing business with China. We will put them in a position to minimise friction and concentrate on exploiting the potential of cross-cultural synergies.

Living and Working in China: The Expat Family
Foreign assignment: China. A great leap for your career - but how does the family react to the news? In our experience: with mixed feelings. Especially since few can imagine what everyday life entails in mysterious China. Our seminar for couples with or without children smoothes the transition into the new culture and allows you to feel more at home sooner. You will bypass much of the initial cultural friction accompanying foreign assignments. You will gain important insights into the Chinese mindscape and grasp their ramifications for social and business dealings. You will learn to identify cultural overlaps and differences and how to bridge them. You will have the opportunity to practice culturally sensitive behavior to make a lasting positive impression. The seminar offers a wealth of information and tips to make the assignment a positive experience for the entire family.

Negotiating with the Chinese
Chinese negotiating practices are based on traditions in place well before Western culture evolved. Disregarding them can lead to failed negotiations - or at least a serious rift in relations. Worst case scenarios can be avoided if you know how the Chinese go about a negotiation. Our seminar will provide the necessary cultural insights as well as invaluable opportunities for practical experience to maximise your prospects for success.
In keeping with the Chinese holistic approach, you will first identify your individual position
within the Chinese business framework. Then we walk you through each phase of a typical
Chinese negotiation acquiring the necessary cultural know-how as you proceed. Practical exercises serve to reinforce behavioral adjustments based on the new information. You will be in a position to negotiate confidently and competently in your future dealings with the Chinese.
